Football is, perhaps, one of America’s favorite pastimes. Unfortunately, players could potentially suffer severe injuries while playing. If prompt action is not taken in the event of a head injury, a player in New York or other areas of the country could suffer significant, long-term harm.
Unfortunately, the long-term fate of a high school football player in another state is unclear as is the exact moment of his head injury. Reports indicate that he was standing on the sidelines during a game that took place on a Saturday in late October. He began experiencing a headache and seizures.
Reports indicate that he had suffered an injury to the left side of his brain. After he was transported to the hospital, he underwent emergency surgery to create room for his brain to swell. Social media reports indicate that he was in a medically induced coma following the procedure, and that he had been able to interact with family members by giving a thumbs up and squeezing someone’s hand. He is reportedly also suffering from pneumonia, which is said to be common for patients in the ICU.
A fundraising campaign has been set up for the teenager and his family. Unfortunately, even with community support, families often find themselves struggling to meet the financial burdens that such an injury can create. In some cases of head injury in New York, victims are never able to fully recover and require significant medical care for the rest of their lives.
