In many towns in New York and across the United States, high school football plays an important role in entertainment. Unfortunately, an increased spotlight on injuries suffered while playing football has sparked a debate on whether stricter regulations are needed to protect players. That debate may be intensified following the recent death of a high schooler from a child injury.

The incident that led to the 16-year-old’s death happened during a game that took place on a day in late September. According to reports, play was stopped after the linebacker was injured during the third quarter. Though he initially walked from the field with help, his condition deteriorated. He was eventually flown to the hospital.

One of his relatives says that the teenager underwent multiple procedures in the days following the incident. Unfortunately, he ultimately passed away. His cause of death was listed as cardiac arrest due to a traumatic head injury. The victim reportedly was healthy prior to the incident with no pre-existing conditions.

The High School Association from the state where the incident happened claims that it does not appear that negligence was involved in the events leading up to the teenager’s injuries. However, it is unclear how much experience the association has with such cases. As such, the family may want an experienced professional to examine their case and determine if legal action is appropriate. Because a child injury to the head can have significant financial ramifications — including medical costs and funeral expenses — many victims and their families in New York opt to fully research their legal options.
