Many parents in New York and across the country have to work in order to support their families. As a result, parents are left to make difficult decisions about who will care for their children when they are unable to do so on their own. Unfortunately, police have recently arrested a babysitter in another state, claiming she caused a child injury to a toddler left in her care.
The incident that led to the arrest happened in September, although she was only recently arrested. According to reports, the woman called 911, claiming that an 18-month-old in her care had fallen down the steps. The child was transported to the hospital where she was diagnosed with external injuries in addition to a brain bleed.
However, officials investigating the incident claimed that the severity of the child’s injuries did not match the woman’s report. Upon questioning, investigators claim that the woman admitted to pushing the child, causing her to hit her back and head on a television set. When she called 911 when the child became unconscious, reports indicate, she made up a story to explain the injuries. She now faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault and criminal abuse of a child.

While law enforcement is attempting to hold the woman criminally responsible for the injuries the toddler suffered, the victim’s family may be concerned about the medical care the child will need and how to afford it.
