Nurse arrested following fatal child injury

Health care professionals in New York and across the country often have difficult jobs. Regardless of the stress they may feel, they must remain professional and ensure that the needs of their patients are met. Unfortunately, a nurse in another state was recently arrested, accused of causing a fatal child injury.

The incident occurred on a day in early June. According to reports, police were called to the scene where a 3-year-old boy was not breathing and was unconscious. At the time of the incident, the victim was receiving care from a home health professional at a location that was not his home. He was ultimately transported to a children's hospital where he died from his injuries.

The medical examiner claims that an autopsy revealed that the boy's death was due to a closed head injury with complications and was a homicide. A 44-year-old nurse now faces a charge of injury to a child intentionally causing serious bodily injury; she has since turned herself in to police. A representative for the woman argues that she is not a murderer and she is looking forward to clearing her name so she can resume her career.

While many of the details regarding the child injury are unclear, police and other officials clearly believe that the nurse caused the young boy's death.  Unfortunately, the family of the young boy are left coping with the devastating consequences of his head injury. While incidents such as this often result in criminal charges, parents in New York who have lost a child due to another person's negligence or willful act may make the decision to pursue justice through the civil court system as well. By doing so, they may be able to rest easier knowing that their actions may prevent other families from suffering in a similar manner.
